Support Sustainable Whale Shark Tourism Employees

In the Bicol region of the Philippines, ecotourism is a core livelihood of many communities. The region is famous for its sustainable whale shark tourism industry, where visitors can interact with these gentle giants without disrupting their natural migration patterns. Since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place in the province, employees in the diving / tourism sector have been left behind, as their source of income has been entirely wiped out.
Workers who are boatmen on dive boats, divemasters, guides, and utility staff of dive centers are now finding themselves unemployed, and in desperate need of funds.
In the Donsol area alone, there are over 63 Dive Masters and whale shark safety employees who are now out of jobs. A complete list of displaced Dive Masters can be found below.
Dive instructor and Philippines navy seal auxiliary Conrado Paz is representing the local group Bicol Scuba Divers in trying to organize efforts to provide food assistance to these laid-off workers and their families. All money raised by this effort will go directly into the purchasing of basic food items for these families, and to transportation costs for delivery. Bicol Scuba Divers has a track record of disaster assistance in the area.
Those organizing the ground efforts are not seeking recognition or publicity, they only want to help out their fellow Filipinos in a time of great need!

Where Your Money Will Go:
Directly to purchasing food supplies for displaced workers.
Ideally, each worker will receive:
A one-month supply of rice: $35.71
15 cans of corned beef or sardines: $8.93
15 packages of instant noodles: $4.46
Vitamin box: 12$
Total: $61.1 per person
61.1 dollars x 63 people = $3,849
Including transportation costs for the volunteers to acquire and deliver the food packages, we are setting a target goal of $4,100 to raise.
