Sustainable village
Nagan Youth is a Norwegian non-profit organization which focuses on helping youth. Our goal is to promote youth related work in the society, and motivate the younger generation to develop their skills and give the youth the right tools to evolve themselves in a positive direction.
We made this GoFundMe page to the youth living in a village called Kowtharimunai in Sri Lanka. Our project in this village is to make Kowtharimunai sustainable and the villagers to be self sufficient.
The reason why we chose this village in particular is the multiple issues that the village has. Kowtharimunai´s main challenges is child marriage and poverty. The villagers are mostly women and children. This is because most of the boys/men died in the civil war or because they died at sea, fishing in the deep ocean. Because of this, most of the families in the village doesn't have any steady income or income at all. Education is the only way out, but since the families are poor and the school is expensive and far away, they quit school in 10th grade and get married in stead.
We want to end this circle.
Our work is based on a model where we buy the village the supplies they need to build the village, businesses etc. The villagers will build what they need themselves, with advice and guidance from Nagan Youth and our partners. When the villagers start to make money, they will but aside 10% for school, 10% for new supplies and 10% for education. Our vision is that this working model will make some of the social issues disappear, so that the youth living in the village can evolve.
Support us and the money will go to buying the villagers the supplies they need to build their village and let their children evolve.
