Support the Climate Cause with New Landfill Design
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Kennesha, a high school student based in Fremont, CA. I'm fundraising money to test out a landfill system I have designed, called RootPipes, at the Ardenwood Historic Farm.
.After learning about the harmful methane emissions of landfills in middle school, I built the "RootPipes" landfill system inspired by mangroves that is more sustainable — more information on the design in this feature.
I prototyped my design and tested it out in my backyard with a $300 budget, finding that RootPipes are 78% more efficient than current landfills. My work has been recognized in Waste Today, MSW Management, Politico, and more, and I have won international awards from Junior Science & Humanities Symposium and Regeneron ISEF for my research. I have been conducting this research for four years, and I aim to continue in my higher education and career.
As a next step, I'm collecting a second round of data by simulating a landfill using composting windrows at Ardenwood Farms. The funds I gather will be used to cover farm permits, prototype building, extraction equipment, data collection devices, gas storage technology, weather-resistant covers, etc.
Thank you for considering contributing to my project! Let's build a sustainable world, together.
