sustainable farming in Malawi
Donation protected
My friend Robert has made his living making hand crafted souveniers out of local waste wood. He lives in Nkopola in Malawi and I met him when I was working at the Lake of Stars Music Festival which took place in his village. A hard working guy, I was taken by his friendliness and willingness to show me around his village. We stay in touch and like many people he's had a tough time this year - there are no tourists to sell his crafts to. But he has a means to make a new living. He has access to land and if he can install a water pump to irrigate it he will be able to make a sustainable future as a smallholder farmer as well as providing water for other small farmers. I have been working on ideas of composting and Climate Smart Agriculture to reduce any dependence on imported inorganic fertilisers. Could you help Robert raise the funds to buy the pump? The need is urgent, he wants to get sowing seeds in October, ready for the rains that will hopefully arrive when the crops have established. But first he needs your help to get started and get the water pump. He and his young family will be incredibly grateful as it will give them a sustainable livelihood.
