On December 13th, 2017, Susie went to the emergency room with terrible pain in her stomach and back. Medical staff rushed to get her a CT scan, and her doctor returned, in tears, to tell her that imaging had revealed pancreatic cancer, and that it had spread throughout her abdomen and around her liver.
We will add more information about her recommended treatment as Susie has a chance to meet with her oncology team, but for now it's safe to say that things probably look bad.
OUR 2018 FUNDRAISING GOAL: $22,000
Susie's first financial needs will be medical out-of-pocket and living expenses as she transitions to disability income.
1) Medical out of pocket—$10,000. Susie has a high deductible like most of us. Also, she’ll have to meet her 2017 deductible and then start over in 2018.
2) Living Expenses—$12,000 ($1,000/month x 12 months) Short term disability income will not be adequate to meet Susie's living expenses and the additional expenses she will have during her medical care. We need to raise this money *before* Susie needs it, so that she isn't living in fear about paying bills.
TOTAL GOAL: $22,000.
Our dear hope is that we can reduce Susie's financial worries during this terrible time, so that she can concentrate on her treatment.
