Sus & Bren's Respite House Donation

Both our mum's have had experience as Carers. We observed first hand the challenges they faced caring for a loved one struggling with both physical needs and varying levels of dementia. The lack of opportunity available to take some time out from the 24/7 care they were giving was the main thing that stood out for us.
We looked to the future and wondered how we would cope if circumstances changed and we were to take on the role of a Carer. With this in mind, we wanted to help by puting a focus on this important community need via our wedding invitation. We hope by sharing this story we can start to build awareness of this community need and start to build support systems for our future and our children's future.
A wonderful organisation has been set up in the Macedon Ranges called Woodend Lifestyles Carers Group. This group are working hard to raise money to build a house to care for loved ones that need to be cared for whilst the Carer can take a short break. This group have a specific focus on providing respite for Carers looking after loved ones with dementia.
This house will provide round the clock nursing and care in a home environment to those with dementia to enable their Carers to take a short break of a week or two. With the many changes and reductions to local government and council funding, there are no resources to provide this support anywhere and it is often left up to the families to support this need themselves.
You can read more about this wonderful group and keep track of the work they are doing raising money to build this amazing home that will provide care and love via their website.
Please go to the Woodend Lifestyle Carers Group website for more details.
