Susana's eye prosthesis surgery

This is my sister Susana. When she was only 18 years old she underwent lasik surgery to correct her severe myopia. Unfortunately, the doctor who performed the surgery did not follow proper procedures, which lead to infection in both eyes. Sadly, even after battling through several surgeries and cornea transplants she permanently lost her vision in 1994.

Things got even worse when day she bent over and hit her eye with a chair. This was very painful not only for her but for all the family, as we had to run her to ED and deal with everybody’s anxiety and depression of seeing our sister going thru so much pain. We managed to raise money in our community and pay for her needed prosthesis. The ocular nerve of the right eye was still healthy, so it was not necessary to extract it at that moment, and at the same time she did not want to give up hope that a miracle could happen and could recover at least some vision. Unfortunately, this never happened.

Currently, at 42, her health has deteriorated and she is now also dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Despite the entire physical and financial struggle, since we were always a low-income family, she managed to raise her two daughters alone as a single mother in the dark, and to this day, her only impulse in life has been to provide them with basic necessities as a home and education.

A few years ago his right eye began to shrink, and although she has been always feeling subconscious of what her face looks like, this was not a priority until now. Three months ago she began to have pain and the doctor who has been seeing her all these years and who tried so hard to save her sight, is recommending that she be operated on before the pain gets worse. The only income she has is her disability check and the health insurance does not cover enough to pay for the implant.

The procedure she needs is the placement of an artificial eye with an orbital implant. I am trying to raise $ 5000 that will cover the cost of surgery plus postoperative care and transportation.

As her brother, I grew up admiring the strength and courage of my sister, I witnessed the suffering, the pain, the endless financial struggle, how difficult it has been for her to raise her two daughters, always trying to have an attitude positive and raise their spirit and dream about the appearance of their faces, since they never had the opportunity to see them. She will never have that, but with the help of your donations, we could end her pain, make her face look normal and add some happiness to her humble life.

Hace unos años su ojo derecho comenzó a encogerse, y aunque siempre se sintio un poco incomoda de cómo se ve su rostro, hasta ahora no era una prioridad. Hace tres meses comenzó a tener dolor y el médico que la ha estado viendo durante todos estos años y que intentó con todas sus fuerzas salvar su vista, está recomendando que la operen antes de que el dolor empeore. El único ingreso que tiene es su cheque de incapacidad y el seguro de salud no cubre lo suficiente como para pagar el implante.

El procedimiento que necesita es la colocación de un ojo artificial con un implante orbital. Estoy tratando de recaudar $ 5000 que cubrirán el costo de la cirugía más el cuidado postoperatorio y el transporte.

Como su hermano, crecí admirando la fuerza y ​​el coraje de mi hermana, fui testigo del sufrimiento, el dolor, la lucha financiera sin fin, lo difícil que ha sido para ella criar a sus dos hijas, siempre tratando de tener una actitud positiva y levantando su espíritu y imaginando como son sus rostros, ya que nunca tuvo la oportunidad de verlos.
