Susan's Song

Donation protected
Yesterday, at On With Life in Ankeny, Iowa, my friend Susan brought down the house in the talent show, performing “This is Me” from the Greatest Showman. She choreographed it herself, which is pretty amazing since on April 9 she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and was rushed to Mercy Hospital’s neurological ICU, waking up April 10 with left-side paralysis and vision loss.  She is working very hard on her recovery, progressing so well that she’s been approved for another month there.

She’s kept her great sense of humor from the night she was found by friends after having the stroke.  We don’t know how much time had passed, but unable to move, and having been alone waiting for help, she still had a small joke for the paramedics.  She is an inspiration for other residents at On With Life, and for family and friends, and we are all anxious to have her back in Ames!

The thing is, within this month she is going to need some funds for some bills and to assist with her transition to The Rose, an assisted living facility here in Ames.  She will be in a wheelchair and unable to use her left hand and leg for some time, and won’t be able to work.  The hope of course is for complete recovery, but there's a long road ahead!  She is also receiving limited insurance benefits, but normal living expenses, the move to a new place and continued therapy add up.

Thank you so much for helping with Susan’s recovery!
