UPDATE 5/13: I have reopened the campaign and raised the goal to help me with some unforeseen medical and living expenses. Rewards are the same: comics are sent out as soon as I'm able to send them. The LOST BOOK is finished; the MYSTERY COMIC BOOK is not yet completed (I missed FCBD for the aforementioned medical reasons), but coming.
Hello again! Matty Boy Anderson here, the world's most obscure underground cartoonist. I need your help. I don't have the funds to do what I want to do, and survive at the same time. Seriously.
I am scheduled for an appearance at Atlanta's Criminal Records on the first Saturday of May, for Free Comic Book Day. My goal is to have two new books finished by that time, so I can have them available at the gig. Your donations will help that become a reality, and keep me from starving or becoming homeless at the same time. Those are worst-case scenarios, but not outside of the realm of possibility. I can't do the necessary work while I'm hocking my personal belongings, job hunting, or having a nervous breakdown over money. It just won't happen.
I have found it impossible to get a regular job and create work at the same time. Employers are hesitant to take me on because I have become a liability in today's work environment. I'm old and I have a compulsion to find humor in dark, unpleasant topics. Anyone familiar with my output over the past 20+ years already knows this. In a just world I would have no issue supporting myself on my comics. We don't live in a just world. You and I know this all too well. Meanwhile, even while I do freelance and commission work, the bills have piled up too high. Before you say anything, of course I know how to code. I can't draw and code at the same time, however.
I only do these fund-raisers out of desperation. It sends my morale straight into the toilet asking for donations when I feel I should be able to subsist on my artwork. I'm not good enough at anything else to get by, and I've run out of time. Your support is a push of encouragement that I am desperately lacking right now. Needless to say, it means more than the world to me. SO:
As a reward for donating $20 or more, I will have a signed comic book for you at Free Comic Book Day. If you can't make it there, I will be more than happy to mail it to you. Whether it's a NEW comic book or not depends upon the success of this fund-raiser.
If we make this goal by April 15th:
-Donations of $100 or more will receive a SIGNED COPY of the upcoming "Ceaseless Fables of Beyonding " LOST BOOK (over 360 pages!)
-Donations of $20 or more will receive a SIGNED COPY of the new MYSTERY COMIC BOOK
-All donations get a shout-out, providing you're cool with it
If we don't make the goal:
-I still love you but I will probably use the money for food/rent/bills
-I'll still send you something nice, but it might take much longer
