Willow's Surgery Fund

Donation protected

Most of the people reading this will already know Willow's story, but for those who don't:

We found Willow as a stray just about three years ago. She was clearly not in good shape. The fact that she was nursing at the time we picked her up, added to her rotten teeth and strange habits (she refused to touch grass, would only eat or drink in a crate, had terrible separation anxiety, etc.), made the vet come to the conclusion that she was most likely a puppy-mill breeder, dumped after last litter due to her age. She's come a long way since then.

Willow has been our baby girl since the moment she came into our lives. She's traveled across the country with us. Moved with us 3 times. She had a front row seat at our wedding.

Six weeks ago, Willow had a bad fall at Camp. It's been determined that she severely injured both of her hind legs - tearing the ACL in her left and chipping part of the bone in the right. We also found out that she has some arthritis in those legs that made her more susceptible to injury.

She's been on complete bedrest since that day, only allowed to move to go to the bathroom. She's been on multiple medications and supplements to help manage the pain and help her heal.

We just had Willow's 6 week re-check, and her doctor told us that she just isn't improving. If we decided against surgery, she would most likely get worse  over time and completely lose the use of her legs. If we do surgery now, she has a good chance of getting full use again. We really trust our vet, and we know she has Willow's best interest in mind. So we've decided to do the surgery.

Jon and I would do anything for our girl. No matter how much it costs, we'll make it happen for her. Willow has come such a long way in the past three years. It's taken this long for her to be able to run and play freely like a normal dog. There is no way we can let her lose that. Especially with summer camp coming up - her favorite place in the world.

She has surgery scheduled for the 16th of this month, an hour and a half away. The cost is $3,500. That doesn't include the what we've spent since the accident, the travel costs, the consultation fee, or aftercare. By the end of the month we'll be drowning in debt from this one accident. I don't know how we're going to do it. That's where this whole thing comes in - as much as we absolutely hate asking for money, this is our last resort. We know how many people love Willow and we think a little bit here and there would go a long way for her.

I'll update things here as we go with how Willow is doing.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
