In 2015 I was diagnosed with Glaucoma in both eyes and started treatments immediately in order to avoid loosing my sight. For those of you who may not know glaucoma is a disease that damages the eye's optic nerve that can result in blindness.
The treatments I was going through were not being as effective as the doctors hoped for, and the glaucoma was moving at a rapid rate where I had lost 30% of my sight, so my only option was to have emergency surgery to prevent being permanently blind. So in March 2018 I had my first surgery in one of my eyes and had to wait another 6 months to get my second surgery in the other eye, which I had this week. Ironically March was the same month I got laid off from my job. Even though being off of work has given me the time to recover from my surgery, it has caused a huge financial burden. My unemployment benefits have run out and because I am still under treatment I can not qualify for disability. And I also can not actively seek employment for at least a few months, as I wait to fully recover from my last surgery.
I know that I had no other option, but to take the necessary measures with both my surgeries in order to restore my vision and be able to provide for my family in the future.
Unfortunately during this process the bills and payments continue to accumulate and I feel helpless because there is nothing I can do while being in recovery.
Even though it’s very hard for me to ask for financial assistance, I have to step out of my comfort zone and reach out to anyone who can help me me out. I also know that God will bless you for your generosity.
