Nahla’s Facial Feminization Surgery Fund

Hi everyone ! My name is Nahla Adama Strong. I am a black trans dancer originally from the Pacific Northwest, now based in Los Angeles. I’ve presented as a trans woman for the past two years, and have struggled with dysphoria from my own body.

I’ll be having Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) with Dr Henry Chen at the end of this month (July 22, 2020) and am asking for financial support while I recover.

The surgery will take 12-15 hours, and I can expect to stay at the hospital for 2-3 days before going home with my mom who will be traveling down from Portland. This procedure will remove / reduce the effects of testosterone in my body. Although insurance will cover the cost of surgery, I’ll need help with rent, food, bills, and transportation while I recover.

I’ll be unable to work for the few months following the surgery. Currently I’m living month-to-month, fully supporting myself from dance / modeling / acting jobs. COVID-19 has already limited the amount of work for performers, and this will be yet another obstacle I’ll face.

I’m a little embarrassed to be asking for help, but know that I need this support to be able to properly recover. I appreciate anything you can do - donations of any size, posts on social media, sharing with family and friends. It won’t go unnoticed. The surgery is less than two weeks away, so please consider helping as quickly as possible!

Right now is a dangerous time for black trans women, and I’m sure that this surgery will alleviate the amount of pressure I put on myself and grant me protection from the transphobia I face daily. This is a lifesaving procedure that I’m so grateful be able to have.
