Surgery for Shimbo
Donation protected
Shimbo was found this morning on the bank of a ditch right off and couldn't get up. When we get to him and pull him out he couldn't walk at all. The picture is his xray of his pelvis as you can see they are not aligned. I was told the surgery is going to be around 4k-5k. I set the goal of 5,500 to cover for the x-rays and vet visits for today as well as covering the surgery.
I still remember the day my roommate Elkins brought him home. I was confused because it wasn't the dog he showed me the night before. I asked him what happened he said Shimbo was one of the longest residents of the Humane Society. Months later when Elkins was getting ready to move out he explained to me that Shimbo couldn't come with and that he would have to go back to the Humane Society unless I would keep him. At first I said no because my girlfriend at the time didn't like him being there and all the drools he liked to gift you. When it was time for Elkins to finally move out my girlfriend had just recently left so I told Elkins I would keep him. At this time I didn't really know what to do or how to handle myself let alone this 4 year old dog that still had 1 or 2 year old puppy energy. This became my excuse to go to the dunes everyday because nobody else wanted to endure all the hills. We started exploring all parts of the Dunes healing each other because you could also tell he didn't have an easy past. The pure joy and happiness he would get from swimming in lake michigan made it all worth it. After trekking the lake shore of Indiana Dunes State and National Park we adventures out for bigger Dunes and new beaches at Warren Dunes. We would take camping trips at our wooded property in Bloomington and go adventure through the army corps to Lake Monroe, and even got to go to the Smokey Mountains together. He's been traveling companion I could ever ask for. He always wanted to go watch the sunset with me. When he went missing the only thing I was scared of is I wasn't going to be there for the rest of his life (I thought somebody had found and kept or stole him). At that moment I thought that I lost my best friend and the idea that there wouldn't be any new adventures for us devastated me. Getting my dog healthy again means the world to me so anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated
Update on Shimbo 4/5/23
Sorry these past few days have been hectic. After finding shimbo Monday morning we were busy with vet appointments and x-rays. Crossroads vet referred us VOC in highland for the surgery. I called there Monday night to schedule an appointment for shimbo and they were able to get him into surgery the next day. Yesterday we spent the day getting him to surgery and bringing him home. The vet believes he should recover fine but at the moment he is resting in bed and gonna be down for atleast 6 weeks and slow moving for a while afterwards. As for the gofundme, I updated the picture and the goal. After the surgery was over we were told the balance was just shy of 4k when it was projected at 5k. I changed the goal to 4.5k because that will cover the cost of the surgery and the vet bills/ x-rays from the day prior. There is still a remaining balance close to 1600 dollars left for his surgery. I will keep the gofundme up for a few more weeks or until we hit the goal. I don't want to accept more donations than what is needed. I cannot thank each and every single one of you for helping keep shimbo alive. Thank you for not letting his post be forgotten, thank you for sharing the gofundme, and last but not least thank you so much for everyone who has donated. It's incredibly mind blowing that we have raised this much so far! Thank you so so much I love you all!
