HELP Piika run again

Donation protected

Our 5 year old mixed rescue dog needs to have surgery to repair her deep digital flexor tendon which was completely severed while hiking.

Piika is the sweetest girl, she’s kind and gentle and also wild and playful. Piika came from the Piikani Nation in Alberta. She loves sticks, rolling in the snow and digging holes in the sand.

She’s been with me since she was a pup. We’ve had so many adventures across Canada and she goes with me everywhere I go.
If you’ve ever met Piika, you know she is a sweet, gentle girl who is kind and loving. She loves running in the forest and could hop around like a deer. She loves exploring new places and meeting new people. She’s always wagging her tail whenever she meets someone and will greet you with a gentle lick.

She’s the best companion I could have ever asked for. She’s been there for me at my lowest points and brings a tremendous amount of joy in our lives. It’s so heartbreaking to see her incapacitated right now.

HER INJURY: We were hiking near a waterfall in a beautiful mossy forest. Piika was loving life; hoping along, exploring and running free as we neared the falls. When we descended to the falls, she jumped about 1 foot and slipped on her initial launch, cutting the foot of her hind leg. At first we thought it was just a cut, but there was so much blood and she couldn’t put any weight on her foot. We made a sling out of our jackets and my partner had to carry her out of the forest.
She was taken to the emergency animal hospital for what I thought was going to be a wound cleaning and a few sutures. It turned out that she completely severed her deep digital flexor tendon. She’s currently in a splint and will undergo orthopaedic surgery to repair the tendon.

She will then have a long road to recovery involving walking assistance equipment and physiotherapy. She will be in a splint for 6 weeks.

Your donation will help cover the cost of the emergency vet visit, her surgery and post-op care, the purchase of any special equipment for walking assistance, any special dietary adjustments to ensure a healthy recovery and any post-op physiotherapy Piika will need for a speedy and healthy recovery.

We will get Piika this surgery no matter what amount is fundraised. We greatly appreciate any support to help Piika run again.

Any amount raised above the cost of her recovery will be donated to the Nova Scotia SPCA.

Thank you for reading this and for your interest in helping out Piika.
