Surgery For Merriweather

Donation protected
I met Merriweather 4 years ago at a local shelter where I volunteer.  I was one on a handful of volunteers who fell in love with her sweet face and sassiness straight away. The first time we met she was in a cage, waiting to go to the adoption floor, and head butted me so hard she nearly broke my glasses.  She certainly knew how to make herself irrisistable.
Sadly Merriweather had been labeled with the dreaded label of "litterbox issues" and this can be the kiss of death for both potential adoptors and the cat.
She was adopted and returned several times and then even placed on a farm.
In a home she would loving, sweet, ok with some cats (not all), good with dogs, but preferred the cpmpany of her chosen person.  The dreaded litterbox issue would always end up being the kiss of death and she would be returned again.
The barn cat experiment was short lived as well as she was terrified.  Merriweather so wants to be a proper house cat, but again the littbox is her problem.
I have felt from the begining that this was a medical issue.  Understand I am a cat behaviorist and between my experence and the expertise of other consultants we could not resesolve her issues.
A very good friend agreed to foster her while taking her to the vets and hoping to get answers, but she befuddled the vets there.
She would not poop for days, even a week, and would hold her pee for days as well.  She was struggling with constipation and during those times she would pee in the box like a champ.  Then she would finally poop, run around in pain and then pee outside the box.  Sometimes she would pee while trying to poop, sometimes right before and others right after, but to me it all seemed related.
No signs of infection, cancer, thyroid isses..... nothing.
We worked on finding the right food, tried miralax, psyllium husk powder, a miraid of medications and nothing worked.
Now 3 years later she is back in NJ with a new foster family, because I have amazing freinds, and after seeing new vets we FINALLY have answers.
While the new diet was helping she was still having issues and it turns out the poor things has 2 perineal hernias.
OMG she must be in such pain everytime she tries to poop and even pee.
She is so sweet and really tries to be a good girl, but has been living with chronic pain for years.
So I tell you all of this as we have scheduled surgery for August 19th and I really need your help!
$5000 will cover the cost surgery, post surgical boarding and any possible complications.  (because of the location of the surgery infection is a risk)
I am so grateful to be able to give this sweet girl a shot at getting adopted into a loving forever home.
I made a promise to her 4 years ago that I would never give up on her and I won't.
Please know that any amount helps or just sharing this page with your friends.
Know that if I could pay for this myself I would, but we recently lost one of our 4 cats to cancer and the costs of treatment were, while worth every single penny, quite expensive.
Just so you know a little about me I have devoted my life to helping animals.  I am a cat behaviorist and owner of The Contented Cat.  I also am the founder and director of The Brodie Fund.  Named after our Brodie, who passed away last September of cancer, my non-profit gives grants to famlies that have pets diagnosed with cancer.  I am still a shelter volunteer and a pet sitter along with having 4 cats of my own.  I share all of this so you know who I am when donating to help Merriweather.
Her surgery will be with the amazing Dr. Davis at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital so she is in the best of hands.

Thank you so much for reading about the wonderful Miss Merriweather and helping her find her way to her forever home.
