Surgery For Charlotte Louise

Charlotte is a 2 year old rescued pitbull mix who was found alone and homeless outside. I rescued her as a puppy and she quickly became the love of my life and a sweet fur sister to her rescued brother Chance.
Who Rescued Who...
Several weeks ago Charlotte was limping and showing lameness in her front legs. Her activity level declined greatly and after visiting our vet and completing several x rays of her front legs, it was determined that Charlotte has moderate bilateral elbow osteoarthritis secondary to elbow dysplasia. I was referred to an orthopedic specialist to determine if surgical intervention could improve Charlotte's clinical condition. After an in-depth consultation with the orthopedic specialist, it was further determined that Charlotte also has secondary bilateral ununited anconeal processes and fragmented medial coronoid processes with moderate secondary arthritis. In addition, bilateral medial patella luxations were also identified.
To better explain, imagine Charlotte having a piece of bone that has completely broken off her elbow. This fragment is floating around, causing her great pain, limited mobility, and extreme arthritis especially for a dog so young in age.
The only option to improve Charlotte's quality of life and ability to function is for her to undergo extensive surgery on both of her front elbows. The orthopedic surgeons would be able to surgically remove the bilateral ununited anconeal processes and fragmented medial coronoid processes. Some of her arthritis would also be removed during surgery. This would allow Charlotte to run in moderation, swim, play, take walks, and have an improved quality of life without chronic pain. It has been recommended that Charlotte have the surgery as soon as possible.
Without the surgery, Charlotte would continue to have chronic pain in both elbows, the arthritis would worsen, she would have further restrictions to her activity such as no running, no swimming, no playing, and very limited walks. For being such a young pup, Charlotte's quality of life would suffer greatly and she would have chronic pain without the surgery.
Worse case scenario, without the surgery the specialists have explained that Charlotte's lameness has the potential to become so severe that she would not be able to walk without needing constant assistance and this could furthermore cause great damage to her back legs as well since she will be overusing them to support her body weight.
The surgery is expected to cost $6000. This covers the surgery on both elbows, anesthesia, medications after surgery, hospital stay, and follow-up care. As a kindergarten teacher, the cost of this surgery is an unexpected and overwhelming financial responsibility for me. As an animal advocate and lover of rescued animals, my dogs are my LIFE. Knowing that Charlotte is in so much constant pain and not being able to afford the surgery on my own, is truly heartbreaking. I am a person of great faith and I believe that kindness from friends, family, and even stranger who care can make all the difference for sweet Charlotte.
