Surgery for Candy Cane’s leg

I found Candy Cane on the NMSU campus.  The feral cats usually run away from humans. As I approached, Candy Cane tried to run, but stumbled.  Her back legs collapsed and I was able to pick her up.  I carried her half way of my 15 minute walk home when my friend gave us a ride.

The vet informed me that her back left leg is broken.  Her leg needs to be fixed with a plate because it is a horizontal break and might twist while healing.

Candy Cane’s surgery is scheduled for Monday 25 February.  It is going to cost just over $2100.  She’ll have at least 6 weeks of recovery.

My name is Aksian.  I’m a graduate student at New Mexico State University.  I found Candy Cane dumped in another feral cat’s camp.  She was dumped on NMSU campus.

Candy Cane spent 90% the 3.5 hours we spent at the vet wanting her ears scratched while on my lap.  She was loving despite being in so much pain with new-to-her humans.
