Hi my name is Michael Weaver and I started this go fund me page for an amazing person and my good friend ian.
Ian has been a musician for as long as I’ve known him. We first met at a local jam night in 2010, and since then, we’ve been thick as thieves—playing in bands, supporting each other, and sharing a deep love for music. When Ian asked me to be part of his fundraising efforts for York Against Cancer, I jumped at the chance. Over the years, he has worked tirelessly, putting on concerts and events, often doing the unseen, behind-the-scenes work to make them happen. Thanks to his dedication and the support of friends and family, over £100,000 has been raised for this incredible cause.
But life threw Ian a curveball. In 2020, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, got the all-clear, only for it to return in 2024. Once again, he continues to fight the disease and remains positive and hopefully will receive the all clear in the spring. Through it all, Ian never stopped giving back. In 2023, he recorded an incredible album, The Butterfly Man with his project, Surgenors Runeii. Ian involved musicians and singers from across the country. Now, he’s dreaming even bigger—creating a second album with not just amazing musicians but also some well-known soap stars.
However, with recent health struggles and financial hurdles, that dream has hit a wall. As we all know, recording an album isn’t cheap, and the funds are drying up. Ian has spent years doing selfless acts for others without asking for anything in return. Now, the shoe is on the other foot, and I’d love to see this album come to life—with a little help from all of us. Every donation, big or small, will help make it happen. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean the world. Thank you for supporting an incredible musician and an even better friend."**
