One (too) Big Heart!
Those of us fortunate to know Suraya know she has a huge heart, which she enthusiastically pours into helping others heal and flourish through art, expression, inquiry and community. A kind, loyal, playful, thoughtful, loving friend, Suraya is always ready to support others and the ethically oriented causes that improve the planet and other people’s lives. She is a devoted single mother to her wonderful nine-year-old boy, and a caring expressive arts therapist who for many years has been producing Shakespeare plays with inmates inside Saint Quentin, and outside with formerly incarcerated people. She also works at a hospital helping folks suffering serious physical and mental health issues. Suraya makes a better world for us all, with that awesome, big heart of hers.
But, as it turns out, there is such thing as having too much of a big heart. Suraya was born with a heart valve condition that has now become severe. The severe leak in the valve has made her heart is abnormally large, and now the doctors are clear that she needs surgery without delay. As you can imagine, having heart surgery can be not only very stressful emotionally, but also financially. Even with insurance, Suraya still must come up with thousands of dollars out of pocket for medical expenses which she cannot delay, plus she has a long recovery ahead during which she will not be able to work and earn money.
More than ever now, our dear friend needs all the support we can offer. Let’s all open our hearts, and our wallets, to support our delightful and hardworking friend Suraya. The world needs her bright healing presence, we want her to be happy and healthy and to live with us for many, many more years. Her surgery is February 11, let’s help her go into that operating room knowing she has less to worry about.
