Patrick "Poppy" Cancer Treatments

Donation protected

Patrick "Poppy" McKenna has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Throat Cancer. Can you please help chip in to pay for his expensive chemo and radiation?

Most of you know my mom and step-dad, Nana and Poppy. You also know how close I am with them, which has made many of you close to them as well through many dinner parties with Poppy's Meatballs or his Chicken Parm nom nom nom. He has baked countless cookies for you and made oodles of fudge during the holidays.  They always love and accept us for the "colorful" group we are...I couldnt have asked for better parents.

Recently, Poppy got a sore throat that grew into a 2" x 2" tumor at the base of his tongue. Currently, he is preparing to start his radiation and chemo this next week. Part of his prep is meeting with a nutritionist (he has lost A LOT of weight) as well as a speech therapist (he is really struggling with speaking right now) as well as an Oncologist Nurse, who is going to make sure he isnt going to choke or aspirate himself during this whole thing. He has been experiencing terrible headaches, pains in his head and throat - and is generally in constant misery.

Nana broke down the cost of the treatments, along wit the appointments at the specialists and it came close to $5,000 est. *happy to share details if you are interested

Thank you in advance...it means the world to me. xo

About Poppy:

Poppy was born on May 8th, 1949. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1968 and worked at the Sea Survival School for Pilots in Homestead, Fla.  There, he taught pilots how to eject from planes, landing in the ocean and basic survival.  He worked as a Respiratory Therapist from 1971 to 2004, at which time he retired as the Clinical Director of Cardio Pulmonology in Cibola Co. New Mexico.

Poppy met Nana in 1993, when he was her Respiratory Therapist while she was sick in Alameda California. He was the "Cute Dr" she would tell me about (SMH!) They were married in 1995, at what I still think was one of the best days ever.

My Poppy loves his Family, especially his Grandkids! He loves my mom in a way that is so genuine its beautiful and they are true soul mates. I witnessed it recently in person when I flew out to see how bad things are myself. Poppy loves his dogs - Lucy and also my furry sister who crossed the rainbow bridge, Philly. He loves to listen to his Political radio shows and his books.
