My name is Evelyn Monserratt, I currently live in Massachusetts, and I'm raising money to help support our family through this difficult time. My aunt Carmen Ferrer, who currently lives in Venezuela, is an amazing mother, godmother, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, and grandmother. She has always helped everyone within her means, a person who you always can count on no matter the situation.
Our beloved Carmen Ferrer has been suffering from heart disease that has worsen with time. Her doctors have directed her to go through open heart surgery as soon as possible to correct this life threatening condition.
Her medical prognosis is:
Severe mitral regurgitation with posterior valve prolapse and overgrowth in left cavity.
Since the health system in Venezuela is completely collapsed at the moment, patients must buy out of pocket their own medical supplies in addition to the cost of surgery. On top of that, prices are inflated beyond means of an average citizen. Our family is in desperate need of help to raise money to be able to pay for this critical surgery.
Initially, she was being treated at the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Caracas, but due to the complexity of her case and that they do not have the right equipment for this procedure to be successful, the medical team referred her to a cardiac surgeon that has the ability to repair her mitral valve in a private clinic that contains the specialized equipment to minimize the risk of this procedure.
The medical team will need a Mitral Ring and a biological mitral valve, on the day of the surgery. The cost of just these two items is approximately $5,000 USD, the other $5,000 USD is to cover the additional expenses related to the surgery such as medication, medical staff, and other hospital expenses. At minimum she will need 3 days in the Cardiac ICU and 3 days in recovery.
The medical report is attached below and for privacy reasons, her age and national identification number (akin to social security number) has been blacked out from the document.
I will withdraw the funds collected on behalf of my aunt Carmen Ferrer, and give it to my mother, Gisela Pacheco, who will travel to Venezuela, so she could give it to her sister in person and pay for her surgery.
