Cari amici e famigliari,
siamo addolorati nell'annunciare che Danilo è deceduto il 6 Marzo 2019. Il funerale è stato tenuto e in molti hanno ricordato la splendida persona che lui è. Per Giunia, sua moglie, ora si affaccia un periodo difficile e tortuoso. Non è difficile immaginare come lei si possa sentire e le difficoltà di carattere burocratico ed economico a cui dovrà andare incontro. Preghiamo di condividere questa campagna a sostegno di Giunia mentre lei si stabilizza e riprende a condurre la sua vita.
Dear Friends and Family,
we are grieved to announce that Danilo passed away on March 6th 2019. The funeral was held a few days later and many attended the ceremony to remember the splendid person that Danilo is. Giunia will be now facing several economic and bureaucratic difficulties and challenges. It doesn't take much to imagine how she must feel now. We pray you to continue to share this campaign in support of Giunia as she once again rises above the hardships of life and moves on with her life.

Abbiamo pensato di condividere con voi i due progetti principali che stiamo cercando di relizzare per aiutare Giunia. Il primo progetto consiste nella creazione di un Bed & Breakfast. L'idea era stata concepita da Danilo per Giunia. Questa idea e' stata una delle sue ultime e realizzarla significherebbe molto a diversi livelli tra cui l'indipendenza finanziaria necessaria per andare avanti. Il secondo progetto che Giunia si propone di attuare e' l'ottenimento di un lavoro part-time quando sara' il tempo giusto per quello. Con questi due piccoli progetti in piedi si prospetta la possibilita' di serenita' e stabilita'. Le donazioni ricevute vanno a sostenere questi due progetti di indipendenza.
ENGLISH We thought it right to share with you about the two projects we are trying to make happen for Giunia. Project #1 consists in the creation of a Bed & Breakfast that Giunia could manage. This was among the last ideas Danilo was able to conceive and it was meant for Giunia's older years. The main benefit of this project is the financial and life stability it can provide to her. The second project that will most likely happen when the time will be the right one, is for Giunia to work part time. These two projects alone will guarantee peace of mind and independence for Giunia. This is where donations are going!

Prima di tutto un grazie di cuore a coloro che ci hanno sostenuto sensibilmente in questi mesi. La malattia di Danilo ha assorbito energie e tempo. Di seguito desideriamo condividere una linea del tempo della malattia che ha colpito Danilo dal 14 Maggio 2017.
14 Maggio 2017
Danilo viene ricoverato d’urgenza in Pronto Soccorso a causa di uno stato confusionale a seguito di una crisi epilettica.
18 Maggio 2017
La prima risonanza alla testa mostra la presenza di un tumore celebrale
29 Maggio 2017
L’esame istologico, in concomitanza della prima operazione chirurgica per la rimozione del tumore, conferma la diagnosi di Glioblastoma di 4o grado non guaribile.
7 Giugno 2017
Danilo torna a casa dall’ ospedale di Udine. Iniziano I cicli congiunti di chemioterapia e radioterapia. Vengono prescritte 15 sedute complessive. Ogni giorno per 15 giorni di fila.
Finisce il primo ciclo trattamento.
5 Ottobre 2017
Era previsto l’inizio del secondo ciclo di trattamento ma dopo due soli giorni dall’inizio Danilo viene ricoverato nuovamente a seguito della sospetta presenza di un’infezione cerebrale risultante dalla risonanza di controllo fatta dall’oncologa.
6 Novembre 2017
Una seconda risonanza a distanza di circa un mese dal 5 Ottobre conferma la presenza di un’infezione cerebrale grave. Bisogna operare nuovamente.
11 Novembre 2017
Danilo viene operato d’urgenza all’ospedale di Udine. L’infezione è profonda. A seguito dell’operazione si sono dovuti togliere uno strato di dura madre, asportare un pezzo del cranio e togliere alcuni noduli tumorali che si erano già riformati . Infine i medici hanno dovuto togliere le parti di tessuto bruciate dalla radio terapia.
2 Settimane dopo…
Cominciano le complicazioni. Il “liquor” o liquido cerebrospinale comincia a fuori uscire. Si fanno tre tentativi per risolvere la situazione:
1. Fasciature compresse----à non funziona
2. Catetere spinale-----à non funziona
3. Catetere esterno---à non funziona
Dopo molte considerazioni viene presa la decisione di operare nuovamente con l’inserimento di un catetere peritoneale dalla testa all’addome che fino ad ora riesce a regolare la fuori uscita del liquido.

Dopo 50 interminabili e durissimi giorni di degenza in ospedale, Danilo finalmente torna a casa
La vita ora
Dal giorno del ritorno Danilo ha ricevuto cure mediche come fisioterapia, assistenza infermieristica ed antiepilettici. I suoi cari lo accudiscono e gli stanno vicino, pronti ad aiutare in qualunque momento. Danilo sta affrontando e combattendo questa malattia da 13 mesi, e durante questo periodo ci sono stati molti cambiamenti, come ad esempio:
- Progressiva Perdita della memoria a breve termine
- Confusione mentale
- Difficolta’ nell’uso della parola (usare una parola per l’altra)
- Difficolta’ a leggere e a scrivere
- Grossi sbalzi emotivi
- Episodi di allucinazioni
- Forti mal di testa
- Perdita della facolta’ di concentrazione
- Perdita del tono muscolare alle gambe e braccia e necessita’ di muoversi con deambulatore
- E’ stato dichiarato 100% invalido
- E ora dorme per la maggiore parte del giorno e notte
- Ecc…
Danilo compira’ 55 anni a Luglio 2018.
Miriam, Giacomo e Micol stanno lavorando, come ciascuno puo’, per aiutare la mamma ad adattarsi a questa enorme sfida. L’obiettivo e’ quello di sostenere gli sforzi e I progetti che renderanno la mamma autonoma e indipendente, in grado di continuare a vivere serena e con i mezzi a disposizione. Al momento, mamma e’ impegnata nell’assistenza totale e continua di Danilo. Miriam sta per finire le scuole Superiori e Giacomo sta lavorando per il suo futuro e per aiutare la famiglia. Micol sostiene offrendo consigli finanziari e, unitamente a Giacomo, supporto monetario. Per quanto questo venga fatto c’e’ spazio per sostegno e aiuto da parte vostra, per la quale saremo sempre grati.
Infine, facciamo appello alla vostra sensibilita’ e giudizio nel dirigere l’aiuto che sarete ispirati a dare a Giunia e Danilo.
Vi terremo aggiornati sui prossimi sviluppi: Il 22 Giugno 2018, Danilo sosterra’ un’altra risonanza che mostrera’ a che punto e’ l’andamento della malattia.

we wish to start this update with a big and heartfelt thank you to all those who significantly supported us during the past months. Danilo’s disease has been taking time and energy from all of us. Following we wish to share a timeline of the main steps that we had to go through as we’ve been battling this disease.

Danilo is urgently brought to the E.R. following a confusional state of mind, which was caused by an epileptic seizure.
May 18, 2017
The first MRI scan of his head shows the presence of a cerebral tumor in Danilo’ head.
May 29, 2017
The histological exam and the first surgery operation to remove the tumor provide a final diagnosis: non curable, 4o Degree Glioblastoma.
June 7, 2017
Danilo returns home from the Hospital in Udine, Italy. He begins a joint treatment of both chemiotheraphy and radiotherapy. He’s prescribed 15 days of therapy for his first cycle.
15 days after, his first treatment cycle is completed.
October 5, 2017
Upon beginning the second treatment cycle, and only after two days of it, Danilo is again urgently brought to the emergency room because it is suspected that he may be affected by a cerebral infection. Suspicion arises after the oncologist examined Danilo’s latest due MRI scan.
November 6, 2017
A second MRI scan performed by the surgeons at the Hospital in Udine confirms the presence of a serious cerebral infection. There’ll be need to operate again.
November 11, 2017
Danilo undergoes surgery for the second time. The infection is deep and as a consequence of it the surgeons had to export a portion of the dura and of the cranial bone. They also had to remove some of the newly formed cancerogeneous nodules that had already formed and finally they had to remove the parts of cerebral tissue that had ben burned during radiotherapy.
2 Weeks later...
Post-surgical complications arise. The so called “Liquor” or “Cerebral fluid” is leaking out. The doctors attempt the use of three corrections to fix this problem:
1. Compressed Bandaging---> doesn’t work
2. Spinal catheter---> doesn’t work
3. External catheter---> doesn’t work
After several considerations the following decision is taken: the surgeons will need to operate again, the third time, to install a peritoneal catheter that will, hopefully, be able to regulate the flow of cerebral fluid.

After 50 neverending and hard days of hospitalization, Danilo can finally return home.
Life as it is now
Following that day, Danilo has received medical care in the form of physiotherapy, nursing assistance and prescribed antiepileptic medicinals. His family members do care and provide the love and help needed at any time.
Danilo has been facing and battling this disease for about 13 months. During these trying times there have been several changes that happened to him due to the effects of this debilitating illness; a few examples include:
- Progressive and worsening loss of short term memory
- Mental confusion
- Difficulty in the use of the spoken word ( as in mixing up words and meanings)
- Difficulty in the processes of writing and reading
- Loss of his rational faculties
- Severe emotional mood swings
- Episodes of Allucinations
- Loss of his focusing skills
- Loss of muscolar tone and strength, leading to the need of a deambulator to move around
- He was declared 100% disabled
- As of now he sleeps for most of the day and night
- Ecc...
Danilo will turn 55 years old in July 2018.
Miriam, Giacomo and Micol are working as each of them can to help mom adapt to this enourmos challenge. The goal is to sustain those projects and efforts that will make mom autonomous and independent, able to keep living life in serenity and with the means to face the senior years with decency. Currently, mom is absorbed in taking complete care of Danilo. Miriam is about to finish High School. Giacomo works hard for his future and to help the family. Micol assists in financial advice and planning and, together with Giacomo, monetarily. For as much as this is happening, there is ample room for support from all of you for the which we will always be grateful.
We make appeal to your sensitivity and judgement as you direct the kind of help you feel inspired to give to Giunia and Danilo.
We intend to keep you informed about the upcoming developments of this challenge. On June 22nd, Danilo will do another MRI scan that will show what’s the status of the disease and to what point has the tumor advanced.
