Support Little Seamus

Seamus Andrew Halligan was born on July 2nd, 2017. Overjoyed to welcome Seamus, his amazing parents Maureen Mulcare Halligan and Pat Halligan had been caring for their sweet baby boy. One morning in mid August Seamus stopped breathing, and was rushed to Boston Children's Hospital (BCH).

After weeks of tests, the doctor's at BCH discovered that there was an issue with his larynx. After the first procedure, little Seamus still had difficulty breathing and feeding, so his stay at Boston Children's was extended for further testing.

After well over a month and several invasive scopes, it was determined that Seamus has a very rare case of bilateral bronchial malacia. This condition causes the bronchial trees to lay flat, and inhibits Seamus' ability to intake oxygen and expel carbon dioxide on his own.

On September 26th, the team at BCH performed a tracheotomy on Seamus. This allows Seamus to receive the appropriate ventilation while his lungs continue to develop. He will likely need to have this airway support for the next 2-4 years.

On October 5th, Seamus was transfered to Franciscan Children's Hospital for recovery and rehabilitation. Pat and Maureen will be trained there on how to care for Seamus and his trach. The long term plan requires that Seamus have a trained nurse at home with him to monitor his ventilation, and help the family watch over him. Though insurance will cover a portion of this care, the cost for this assistance and additional childcare will be a large burden. Both Pat and Maureen work full time, and they want to ensure that Seamus is getting the best care possible.

Family and friends have asked how they can help, and alleviating some of the financial stress is the best way. Our goal is to raise $100,000 before the Thanksgiving holiday. This money will go toward medical expenses incurred over a seven week stay at BCH and time at Franciscan's, and the cost of caring for Seamus at home, which includes durable medical equipment, nursing assistance, and childcare.

We know the Halligans appreciate all of the love and support they are getting thus far. With our help Seamus will get through this and go on to live a happy, and healthy life.
