J.T. Boone Medical Expenses

August 28, 2017

My family and I are working to raise money for the family of my college roommate, J.T. Boone. J.T. has experienced, and continues to experience, a significant amount of medical trouble over the last year. Additionally, his immediate family has endured, and continues to do so, an unbelievable amount of adversity with regard to the health of its members.

J.T. and I met my freshman year at Wake Forest University. We lived on the same hall and would become roommates for the rest of our college career and best friends still. J.T. is a bright, witty, hardworking, athletic individual with a thirst for innovation and a large heart full of integrity. Originally from Florida, he made great grades at Wake Forest while holding numerous leadership roles, as well as jobs in the athletic department. His family moved to New Mexico his junior year after his father battled cancer and was receiving treatment in Albuquerque, New Mexico. J.T. graduated from the undergraduate business school in May 2016 and immediately moved to Austin, Texas to pursue a career in technology sales and consulting.

Shortly after his move to Texas, J.T. began falling seriously ill. He suffered for several months before finally being admitted to the nearby hospital after significant blood loss, malnutrition, and nearly collapsing. He had contracted a severe case of ulcerative colitis –his colon had various tears and numerous blockages. After many weeks in the hospital and a number of return emergency visits, J.T. had experienced six major surgeries that resulted in the complete removal of his colon. Not only did he live with an unbelievable amount of pain over the last year, he was forced to adapt to a new lifestyle. While he has kept a great attitude, he continues to have a wound vac and is expected to need a few more surgeries.  We are hopeful that he will eventually be a candidate for a J-pouch.

I flew out to Texas to be with him for his first surgery. His parents have been taking time off of work and travelling from New Mexico to Texas on multiple occasions to be with their son as he undergoes serious medical procedures throughout the last year. All the while, J.T.’s brother, Jimmy, has been experiencing serious health complications that continue to go undiagnosed – seeing a number of specialists weekly. Even though Jimmy lives in New Mexico, the family is perpetually incurring expenses to visit, split time, and care for two sons experiencing serious medical hardship in different states.

We have a modest ask: we are attempting to raise funds for the Boone family to assist with their travel and outstanding medical expenses. Any amount of assistance in whatever form most appropriate for you would make an immense impact for this wonderful family.

This is a family that defines America – hardworking, loyal, friendly, giving, and filled with the will to do what is right. They have continually given back to their local communities and the Wake Forest/Winston-Salem community and it is our hope to assist them through this difficult stage in their lives. With your help, we can have a substantial positive impact for one of the greatest friends and families I have ever had the privilege of knowing.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide any further information.
