Supporting Julie…

Hello and warm greetings to all of you. We have set up this page because many people have asked what could be done to help and support Julie through this most difficult time that she is going through.

If you have not heard, Julie’s son Cooper was struck by a pick-up truck on July 26th. He was airlifted to Boston Medical Center in critical condition. While there, Cooper spent a week fighting for his life in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and another 5-1/2 weeks recovering in the hospital. The first responders and trauma team at BMC saved Cooper’s life and he is making a miraculous recovery. Julie, Tommy and both of their families are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support they continue to receive.

Cooper was released to the care of Julie on September 8th at her home on Yarmouth Port. He will be in a wheel chair for another 5 weeks while his broken pelvis and other wounds continue to heal, and to prepare for the next stages of his recovery and rehabilitation. His doctors are hopeful he will recover fully with a lot of hard work and determination.

Julie was and has been at Cooper’s side throughout his recovery and because of that, she’s missed all of her work at the Barnstable Tavern during his 6-1/2 weeks in the hospital. The resulting loss of income has been staggering. Work will be an ongoing challenge as she navigates Cooper living back at home, caring for him, and getting him to and from his many treatments and rehab still required post hospital over the next several months.

And then the unthinkable…

On August 31, Julie’s beautiful 7 year old chocolate lab, Muddy, got very ill and had to go to the vet. It was discovered after many tests that Muddy had a large mass in his belly. The vet tried several treatments but his condition rapidly declined. On Sept 4, Muddy passed away.

Julie is that person that sees the glass still full even when it’s 1/2 empty. Her amazing positive attitude throughout all of this has been incredible to witness. Her immediate reflection of Muddy and the days she got to spend with him are what we heard about during the days after he passed, and from the very first day with Cooper in the SICU she spoke about how he would be OK and sent her amazing energy out into the universe for his recovery. We’ve been able to see her at her absolute best, when life and times have been such the contrary.

Now that Cooper is home and Muddy’s ashes are spread at Julie’s favorite swimming hole and his favorite sandbar, the reality of lost income, thousands in vet bills, and the unknown expense that the future holds, are what she is facing with still so much left regarding Cooper’s recovery and helping him get back on his feet.

With this page we are trying to lessen that burden so she can continue to focus on the important things and not have to worry about how her living expenses will be paid.

With much peace and light and the most positive vibes, we thank you for whatever you can do to help.

Julie’s friends. XO
