Supporting Carrie-Breast Cancer Fund

Carrie Calkins is an inspiration to all who know her. She shares her love of dance with countless young people; however, she teaches much more than just "how to dance". She teaches the value of teamwork, sacrifice, and perseverance in the face of a challenge. Carrie is now faced with a challenge of her own, in the form of breast cancer. Although she has insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses for her treatment have proven to be substantial. My name is Elaine, and I am a friend of Carrie; the purpose of this “Go Fund Me” account is to give those, near and far, the opportunity to support Carrie by helping to alleviate the financial burden associated with treatment.

Many people have asked, “How can I help?”…this is the perfect opportunity! Any amount will be GREATLY appreciated. Please read Carrie's full story below, and keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your generosity.

"In 2013 I found a bump on the left side of my chest and underwent a surgical biopsy. Having a family history of breast cancer, I waited, nervously, for the results. Thankfully, there were no cancerous cells, and I was given a clean bill of health, with a follow up MRI in one year. At my check-up a year later I was confident that everything would be fine. I felt young, healthy, and happy! Several weeks after that appointment I was asked to come back in for an ultrasound where they told me there was a different spot that had caused concern. After another biopsy and second MRI I received a phone call that I was not prepared for and never thought would come. On December 9, 2014, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Grade 2, Level 6 (of 9) - breast cancer (very uncommon for a 32 year-old). After countless doctor’s appointments, phone calls with insurance, and an insurmountable amount of paperwork, I am now preparing for a bilateral mastectomy surgery on the 26th of January. My chemo and radiation treatment plan will be based on what they find during surgery. I am thankful for the positive energy that surrounds me, and I am determined to find the silver linings in the battle ahead! #TogetherWeFight"
