<div>On Friday, I had my 9th hip surgery. They performed another washout/debridement and, after everything we’ve been through over the last two years, I finally received a total hip replacement!!

<div>My bone had deteriorated to the point that it was crumbling, there was dead muscle tissue, and there was little to no blood flow to the area. Hearing that was heartbreaking, but also validating. I truly don’t know how I’ve managed to keep going for this long, but by God’s grace, somehow I have.

</div>
<div>Because of all my previous surgeries, they had to cut through my old incision again and I have a wound vac. Recovery is going to be long and painful, and right now I’m struggling quite a bit. Getting around is hard, everything hurts, and I need a lot of help with even simple things. But…. I got a new hip and kept my leg!!

<div>We’re also waiting on culture results. If anything comes back concerning, I may have to go back next week for a PICC line and do six weeks of IV antibiotics— on top of already having lupus and being immunocompromised so I have to basically quarantine and hope I don’t catch something. Lucky me LOL.

<div>As many of you know, Eddie has been by my side through every appointment, surgery, hospitalization, and setback. With this recovery, he’ll need to take more unpaid time away from work to help care for me. <div>I wanted to share a quick update. We have a trip to Mayo Clinic in Rochester in June where we will be meeting with multiple specialists to finally come up with a comprehensive surgical plan, as well as a psych clearance for surgery and some advanced imaging.

<div>This feels like a really important step forward, and we’re hopeful it will bring some long-awaited answers and direction. I’ve been hopeless.
</div>

</div>
<div>I’ve had two recent hospitalizations, one because of my leg and another from a reaction to IVIG—which is supposed to be building up my non-existent immune system.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, my drs believe at this point my body is going to reject anything they try to give me because of the condition of my leg. The acute issue is my hip and infection and it’s just not worth the risk of having another bad reaction leading to ANOTHER hospitalization. I can’t take it.

<div>I just wanted to share an update. I’m currently back in the hospital. I had a nerve block done this morning in hopes of calming the pain and inflammation, but unfortunately it didn’t provide relief. I am currently waiting for Ortho to come back with a plan. We may sever my psoas muscle.
</div>

<div>My MRI from last night shows ongoing and significant issues in my right hip — including chronic iliopsoas tendon damage with tearing, muscle atrophy, two glute tears, fluid accumulation in and outside the joint, degenerative changes in general, and persistent inflammation. Because of the complexity and recurrence of these findings, I’ve been referred to Bone &amp; Soft Tissue Oncology next week for further evaluation.

<div>This doesn’t automatically mean cancer — but it does mean my case has reached a level where specialists who handle complex bone and soft tissue conditions need to be involved. It’s serious, and it’s overwhelming.
</div>

<div>Over the past couple months, we’ve been caught in an exhausting cycle that just won’t end. I had my 7th? aspiration yesterday, and once again I’m already swelling — the same pattern repeating every time: drain fluid, feel (brief) relief, then develop even more fluid collections and worsening, extreme pain. Because of how complex and unresolved this has become, I now have to travel back to the Mayo Clinic for multiple specialist consults, including psychiatry, plastic surgery, and orthopedic surgery again, to finally get comprehensive answers and a long-term plan. This means flying out of state, staying near the hospital, and covering mounting medical and travel expenses on top of everything we’ve already faced. I cannot make this stuff up. We have been through more than I can put into words, and all we want is to reach the other side of this — to heal, to stabilize, and to move forward with this life. <div>They’re planning to do an aspiration to confirm what they believe is a deep infection. From there, they’re likely placing a surgical antibiotic delivery system directly into my body. And that’s just the beginning. We’ll need to travel again for whatever surgery comes next—but this time, it will be with some of the best doctors in the world, and for the first time, I feel like someone is going to truly fight to save me. Between everything with my leg, and the lupus and scleroderma I feel like I’m falling apart.

<div>Saint Francis Hospital knowingly caused me harm—and now they’re refusing to help me survive what they did.

<div>I was given a medication I’m allergic to, on 4/10 directly into my hip joint, despite clear documentation of that allergy. I asked the provider before if it was the medication, and he lied telling me no. The reaction nearly killed me. I was hospitalized for 17 days, left with permanent damage, chronic pain, and complications that have completely derailed my life. This doctor is still practicing.

<div>They later admitted fault in writing and said they wouldn’t charge me for the hospital stay due to the quality of care I received. They knew Monday morning it was this bad. He would not come look at me. Would not consult and just told them to tell me to “call the office.”

<div>They expect me to call the provider who hurt me to find a solution to my problem? Absolutely not. I’m SO TIRED of these people walking all over me and neglecting me. I want my life back. I want to run. I want to play with my kids man. I wanna swim this summer. I wanna dance with my husband and let him carry me around without pain. I just need them to fix this, I really am not okay

<div>Things are not any better. Sadly, I lost my job two weeks ago due to missing work to be here and care for Sarah and the kids. I wouldn't change it for a thing, but it has added to all of the stress we are already under. I did not qualify for any type of job protected leave so unfortunately, I was let go.
</div>
<div>On 3/27 Sarah went in for a procedure to aspirate the fluid from her hip and have a new drain placed. Not that it is surprising, but they did not place the drain like they were supposed to. The purpose of the drain is for Sarah to receive antibiotics and sclerotherapy through it, as well as to keep the fluid from reaccumulating over and over like it has been. This is not guaranteed to work, but it is the last resort before we have to have another open debridement.
</div>
<div>Because they forgot to place the drain, she has to go through the procedure all over again. This whole ordeal has traumatized her beyond anything I've seen her go through, and they keep letting her down over and over again. I have never seen her in this much pain. It is a helpless feeling.
</div>
<div>She messaged her surgeon immediately after the procedure due to the amount of pain she was in and waking up to no drain. They acknowledged their mistake, but it was still ANOTHER mistake.
</div>
<div>The fluid has already come back worse than it was before. To top it off, her trauma surgeon told her there was nothing further he could do to help her at this time. He destroyed my wife's leg and left her suffering, with no solution, no pain management, and no trust left in her doctors.
</div>
<div>Sarah got accepted as a patient into the Mayo Clinic, but it is a process and requires a lot of pre-admission testing and then eventual travel to Rochester.
</div>
<div>We are keeping our go fund me open to help with everyday expenses, as well as preparing to travel. Please share our story and know that we appreciate each and every person who has been following us through this. We could not do it without our village.

<div>We went to another trauma surgeon today that immediately sent Sarah to the ER. The swelling in her leg has gotten worse, and we are essentially back at square one. Each visit seems like a nightmare without end, filled with uncertainty and fear.
