With the sudden passing of Jason Botchford, our hearts are aching for the Bothford family.
Remembering Jason Botchford
Jason Botchford was a highly respected hockey journalist, prominent in the Vancouver area and across Canada for his coverage of the Vancouver Canucks and the National Hockey League for The Athletic Vancouver and for TSN radio and television. Jason was also well known for his work as a Canucks reporter at The Province from 2005 until 2018 where he created the popular post-Canucks game feature The Provies, which was then renamed The Athletties when he moved over to The Athletic Vancouver in 2018. He developed a huge following with his lively, often playful writing style, edgy commentary and plugged-in reportage. His dynamic presence on social media attracted more than 59,000 Twitter followers.
All of this prominence ended suddenly, when Jason died unexpectedly of apparent heart failure, leaving behind his loving wife Kathryn and their 3 children, Sienna, 8 Keira, 6 and Hudson, 3. Jason's family, the sports community and the hockey world are stunned by his passing.
Upon hearing of Jason's death, many have described him and his professional work as polarizing, passionate, trailblazing, and legendary. And while his work will be what many will remember him for, we must also remember that first and foremost, Jason was a loving husband and a wonderful father.
We know many people have been impacted by Jason's incredible life and want to help his family. The funds raised will go to Kathryn and their 3 young children, to be used for various expenses, including an education fund for the children.
The family is finding comfort in reading all the Twitter comments and listening to the fans on the radio. "We are deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, family and fans".
