Family, Friends, and Supporters,
As many of you know, Dave was diagnosed with ALS in late January of 2019. ALS is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. In this disease, nerve cells break down, which reduces functionality in the muscles they supply. It is a disease that has no cure.
Dave is an ultimate hockey fan. He has spent his life playing on the ice and cheering for his beloved Chicago Blackhawks. With his wife Heather and his two daughters Bryn (14) and Brooke (11) by his side, Dave is channeling the same passion and determination to fight this disease.
Presently, Dave is using a walker and wheelchair to get around at home and work. His legs are progressively losing function, and normal ordinary activities exhaust him. Heather and the girls give him incredible daily support, but eventually, he will be unable to work. Once this happens, it will be a six month waiting period before he can gain social security.
Heather and Dave are in the process of making numerous costly adjustments to their home and vehicles to accommodate his present and future needs. They are about to begin a significant renovation to install two lifts in their home to make it accessible; this is the first of many.
As you can imagine, this will put a tremendous financial and emotional strain on the Barlogs. They are on a journey that will require an enormous amount of love, support, and giving.
While we can’t give the Barlogs what they need most, a cure for Dave, we can provide them with something. We ask for your help to give Dave a #powerplay. Please consider a donation to the Barlogs to reduce their financial burden and help make their home as comfortable as possible.
