Sometimes-
In life-
You get answers you asked for but weren't really ready to receive.
It's your response to those things that really counts.
Tomorrow, my courageous husband will be once again facing another one of his greatest fears- surgery- a surgery we never expected to be experiencing at a ripe young age of 34- only to find out this second Miracle Man of mine has been walking around with this condition UNTREATED HIS ENTIRE LIFE!
Spina Bifida Occulta- a malformation of one or more vertebrae. Occulta, means hidden, the mildest form of Spina Bifida, results in a small separation or gap in one of more bones in the spine. This condition left untreated can cause many complications. Some of which he is already full blown experiencing, some just on the rise, others like his walking are better on some days than others. Tethered cord syndrome is the most common complication of spina bifida occulta. The answer (diagnosis) we got that set us back in our seats-completely unprepared for this, shock and fear hit as we listens to the surgeon explain what we had just learned.
A person's spinal cord runs from their brain down their spinal column. When tethered cord syndrome occurs, the usually free-hanging spinal cord becomes attached to the spinal column, restricting its movement. And in my husbands case, he as well has a Lipoma (fatty mass) connected to the spinal cord causing more stretching which will also be addressed during surgery however they do not know how many nerves will be connected to this mass so removal may not be possible. He may need to have this surgery repeatedly though out his life.
Complications are great with this form of surgery, damage to the spinal cord and myelomeningocele, resulting in worsening of muscle, bladder, or bowel function. All of which are already ailing him but to know the bodily functions could potentially get worse or complications could completely shut them down has us praying for the very best outcome in his what they call "rare and complicated" situation but say "He is a prime subject due to his age and otherwise being extremely healthy!"
Everything in life happens for a reason- sometimes YOU COULDN'T GIVE TWO FUCKS ABOUT THAT REASON AND YOU WANT TO GIVE UP......
I've seen the dark side of giving up hope and it scares the living life outta me! Which gives me all the more reason to RISE THE FUCK UP AND BE HOPE FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT!! And this is exactly the reason this happens- TO GIVE HOPE- this amazing man who has stood by my side for almost 16 years of his life has NEVER ONCE GIVEN UP HOPE- and I sure as HELL WILL RETURN THAT FAVOR WHEN HE NEEDS IT MOST!! Please join in my efforts to support and lift up this incredible father, husband, son, uncle, and friend and send him some good vibes/thoughts/prayers- whatever mojo u got, please send it Dustins way- cause I can tell u this, the universe is sure sending him some mojo in the form of a Super Wolf Blood Moon the very same night we tuck Daddy in under that moon @ La Quinta Inn and Suites Rochester, as well as Our School district taking off, in what I heard was the first time ever, MLK Jr. day, January 21st the day of his surgery, so our babies don't have to miss a wink of school and can be there with us if any complications arise.
I'd say he has all the cards he needs in his hands, how we trust the team of surgeons hold those same cards as our families future lies in their hands! And that is why we chose only the best of the best for OUR BEST OF THE BEST!
