Steve Katz's music has pulled many of us through our happiest and toughest moments -- and now he needs our support more than ever. Steve recently shared his battle with cancer on Facebook (see below). Despite what is surely a scary and painful time, two things were abundantly apparent: Steve's positive energy continues to shine and a massive amount of people care about him deeply.
Steve would never ask for anything other than some love and a listen, so that's what we're here for. Steve is unable to work during this time and is temporarily living in Colorado for treatment. If you'd like to contribute to help offset medical bills, travel, and general expenses, we invite you to do so here.
Steve's recent Facebook update:
A couple of months ago I started canceling shows and generally keeping a very low profile. I was experiencing some very disturbing health issues and after blood/urine lab work, ultrasound, C/T scans and doctor visits, a mass was found in my bladder. I decided to seek medical help off island and near family, so Michelle and I left for Colorado on September 10th. My first appointment was on September 13 with a fantastic urologist at UC Health and was informed that the tumor was “almost certainly” a carcinoma. Bypassing further testing, I had surgery on September 15th to remove the tumor. There were no complications and I was out of the hospital within hours. I received the pathology report 2 days later and the mass was, indeed, a ”high grade” carcinoma. The positive news is the cancer did not spread beyond the lining of the bladder. Unfortunately, this type of cancer is known to recur fairly often. After meeting with my doctor on Tuesday, it was decided that I will begin a six week immunotherapy treatment starting on the 28th once a week, directly into my bladder.
If you find yourself missing Steve's music, you can always have a listen at on his website.
