Supporting Sheri's Fight
Sheri is 51 years old and a wonderful mom to 3 kids. As a single mom she raised her 3 kids while also working full time and going to school full time. In 2017 she graduated and achieved her dream of entering the field of social work. She has been responsible for supporting and assisting survivors of abuse/assault and coordinating their care, safety plans and helping them transition into a safer environment. Sheri’s compassion and concern for others is always evident and several of her clients have personally thanked her and have told her that she has made such an impact on them and that she has truly helped them turn their lives around.
Three years ago Sheri was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), a degenerative muscle disease that causes muscle to weaken and unfortunately there is no cure. For Sheri, IBM has mainly affected her leg and abdominal muscles which has made walking difficult, and rising from a seated position is one of her biggest challenges. But despite her increasing physical limitations, she has managed to continue going to work each day. This would be challenging enough for anyone, but two weeks ago, Sheri was also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her treatment plan includes months of chemotherapy, possible radiation and hopefully if she responds well enough, surgery to remove the cancer is the ultimate goal. Even though her IBM could not keep her down and away from work, treatment for her cancer will not allow her to continue working. Now Sheri, the woman who has helped countless others is in need of our help. We are asking for your support to help Sheri with the cost of medical treatment and to help alleviate some of the financial burden that she is facing.
There are no guarantees but Sheri is a fighter. She knows the road will be a long and rigorous one but she is thankful for the opportunity of treatment.
