Supporting Paris & Carmen with cancer treatments

Friends of JCIRA (Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates) will remember our good friends and asylum seekers Paris and Carmen. They both fled El Salvador with death threats and persecution. Paris was sponsored by JCIRA and lived here in Port Townsend for 15 months before being joined by mom Carmen.  A few months later, in August 2021, they had to move to Skagit County for work but we're in touch and helping them in the ways that JCIRA still can. Paris is fiercely committed to supporting herself and her mother, which is why they moved to Skagit County.

Now, Carmen has been diagnosed with cervical cancer and  is facing  months of chemo and radiation treatment. Carmen speaks no English, has not received a work permit and depends on Paris for almost everything.  While they will get some financial aid from the hospital, they will still have to pay many medical and prescription bills plus all their usual expenses. Paris will need to miss  a lot of work  to provide support and care for Carmen.  As asylum seekers still in process, they aren't eligible for most government assistance. Please help JCIRA support these great folks in their time of need.
