Supporting our NHS & GoodSAM Responders

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Michael and I’m asking for your help to purchase a mobile AED (defibrillator) for use in the local community.

I’m an On Call Firefighter in Felixstowe and also assist East of England Ambulance Service by responding to alerts sent to me via the GoodSAM Responder Service.

What is a GoodSAM responder?

The GoodSAM Network of Volunteer responders provide basic life support to those nearby in cardiac arrest while an ambulance is en route. These off-duty nurses, paramedics, doctors, police, fire and first aiders save many lives each year.

What is sudden cardiac arrest?

A sudden cardiac arrest is a breakdown of the electrical impulses that transfer to the heart, preventing it from beating efficiently. This causes swift unconsciousness and decreased breathing.

This is a very serious condition which requires CPR and Defibrillation in the first initial moments to increase the possibility of survival.

The combination of CPR and defibrillation is the only definitive treatment for a sudden cardiac arrest. Having an AED means you can step in with the tools to save a life before paramedics arrive – every minute counts. Research shows survival rates of up to 70% can be achieved if an AED is on hand.

What is an AED?

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
