Supporting Our Father’s Final Journey

Donation protected
Hey Friends, Family, and kind human hearts,

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but life has brought us into a season that is both sacred and incredibly hard.

My father, Eric E. Lindeau, who so many love and adore, is currently at home on hospice with me. I have been his primary caregiver for several months now. My goal is simple yet heavy: to keep him comfortable, dignified, and surrounded by love as he walks through his final chapter of his life… at home, where he feels the most love and safety.

In 2016, he had a liver transplant after going into liver failure due to Hepatic Cancer and Hep C. He did an amazing job through a tough procedure and bounced back, playing basketball, staying active in church, and continuing to be his loving, larger-than-life self. A few years ago, he started to experience rejection, which was followed by multiple treatments with steroids until he became resistant. His rejection episodes have become closer and closer, and last year, after his wife (our mom) of 34 years passed away, his health continued to decline rapidly. In the last 4 months, he has had 6 hospitalizations and several experimental treatments that were last resort situations to preserve his liver. He is not a candidate for another transplant due to his health, and currently, his liver is working under 50% and declining.

Caring for a loved one at the end of life is emotionally profound and physically demanding. Alongside the grief that comes with anticipatory loss, there are very real, ongoing costs that hospice does not fully cover. These needs exist before his passing and will continue afterward as I and my 2 sisters navigate arrangements, final expenses, and the emotional recovery that follows.

My sisters and I lost our mother last year and are still navigating the impact it had on us. Now, navigating our father's journey so soon has put mental, emotional, physical, and financial stress on us all.

I am the oldest. I am a disabled mother who works full-time, and my father lives with me. My middle sister just flew in from Hawaii, where she lives, to help where she can. My youngest sister is a few hours away with 2 young children and a full-time job. We are all over here pulling from limited supports and resources to give my dad what he needs and deserves.

I am asking for support not because this is easy for me, because this is incredibly challenging, but because allowing help is sometimes the most loving and responsible thing we can do.

The money received will be utilized for the following:
  • In home care supplies hospice does not provide.
  • Medical and comfort equipment hospice does not cover.
  • Personal care items, hygiene supplies
  • Household support (utilities, food, caregiving necessities, etc)
  • Lost income due to caregiver responsibilities for all of us girls
  • Funeral and memorial expenses
  • Post-death necessities, travel, and administrative costs
  • Time and space to grieve without immediate financial crisis
Every contribution directly supports my sisters and I ability to remain present with my father during this time, instead of being forced to choose between caregiving and financial survival.

This season has stripped life down to what matters most: presence, love, and humanity.

My father has given so much through this life. He was a nurse several decades, a dedicated man of God and never went a day without making someone smile.  Being able to care for him now, gently, patiently and with respect is an honor, even in this pain. Your support helps ensure that his final days are met with comfort and that we, his daughters, am not left overwhelmed when the quiet aftermath arrives. This is especially crucial after loosing our mother last year.

If you are unable to donate, sharing this page, checking in, or holding us in your thoughts and prayers means more than we can express!!!

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing beside us in anyway you can.

With gratitude and love,
Erica, Eric’s Eldest Daughter
