Help Black Owned Restaurants & Feed Those In Need

Donation protected
Given the recent series of events due to the Coronavirus outbreak and recent Black Lives Matter initiatives, the restaurant industry is one of the sectors that has been deeply affected. Small businesses, especially those owned by Black individuals, are struggling to keep their operations afloat. As writer Angela Burke explained in a recent Eater article, "Black restaurant owners, [B]lack women especially, are in a more precarious position from the get-go," noting that Black- and brown-owned businesses are three times as likely to be denied loans and that Black restaurant workers are the lowest paid in the industry (https://www.eater.com/2020/4/17/21219105/black-owned-restaurants-businesses-coronavirus-impact-covid-19 ).

As summer approaches and NYC schools are closed for the remainder of the school year, our focus expands to our community service efforts addressing the food insecurities and lack of access to healthy meal options. We are concerned that children and families in need won't have the ability to retrieve hot meals nor the proper nourishment during the summer months as the pandemic isn't nearly over. Our primary focus is on feeding NYC's BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth and families, we have partnered with Madison Boys and Girls Club as well as Head Start North Bronx to make this an impactful initiative. With your help, we will not only be able to support Black restaurant owners but also provide our community's youth with hot meals regularly.

Your donation will go to purchasing meals from local New York City Black-Owned restaurants (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jWcotmuutip9GP6MAyaiQ-DV_3NcV16BexZitzybc28/edit#gid=0). These restaurants include, but are not limited to: Peaches Hothouse, Sisters, The Crabby Shack, MangoSeed & Zurilee, Harlem Hops, Mo's Original, Urban Vegan Kitchen, Cheeky Sandwiches Spring Creek BBQ, Norma's Cafe, and more to come.  Once purchased, we will then distribute the meals to the Food Bank of New York City (https://www.foodbanknyc.org/ ), Madison Square Boys and Girls Club (https://www.madisonsquare.org/ ), and (https://www.headstartprogram.us/city/ny-bronx ). 100% of the proceeds will go towards purchasing meals for children in need from New York City's Black Owned restaurants.

With so much uncertainty and concern surrounding the recent novel coronavirus, it is easy to feel helpless - but there is something we can all do to help. Through this fundraising initiative, we can all do our part to not only provide much-needed support to help local, Black-owned restaurants in New York City but also help provide meals for kids in need throughout New York City.
