Supporting Neglected Filipino Children

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

We (Jordan and Tintin) are currently coaching football in Tacloban City in the Philippines for an NGO called Fundlife International, in connection with Arsenal FC. As part of our work, we visit a Social Development Centre which houses children who have been neglected by their families and also some in conflict with the law.

They are all amazing children with intentions to better themselves but are severely disadvantaged in life. The centre aims to educate them, to develop them as people but most of all to simply give them something to eat and somewhere to live. Without the centre, they would likely head towards a much worse life of crime, drug abuse and poverty.

Over the last few weeks we have been coaching football sessions there three times a week and have become completely attached to the children. They are always in a good mood, so grateful for what they have and they love to just have fun with each other and with us! They are always so excited to see us, we love to play football with them and make awful songs in Waray-Waray (Pakadi Singadi Pumati-ti!)

However, we can see the terrible conditions in which they live. They have no shoes, they sleep on bare wooden beds, they all have rotten teeth, most don't go to school and experience the same limited daily routine of trying to entertain themselves with a few colouring books and some balls. A few days ago we arrived at the centre for our session and all the children had been given these watches which made a noise by a visitor. They were all so excited, showed them off to us and it just reinforced how such a small gift can mean so much to them and entertain them for so long.

Here is a list of how much things cost in Tacloban:

50p - 1 kilo of rice (enough for 25 people)

£3.50 - an apple each for 30 children

£2.98 - a pair of shoes

£15 - one foam mattress

£1 - t shirt

75p - toothbrush

£2.50 - board games, puzzles and colouring books.

We hope it's obvious then that any donation no matter how small would be appreciated.

Whatever the size of the donation, it would allow us to go to the market, buy some items like the ones above and bring it to the centre for their entertainment and well-being. Even £2 would be a massive help to our cause (the price of a coffee or 6 wings and chips!)

We understand that we can't dramatically change their situation but we are just trying to bring a bit more joy and hope to their lives. Please give what you can!

Big love,

Sweets and Tinno
