On January 1st, 2018, my mother felt as though she had gotten food poisoning from some food she had eaten.  She spent the rest of the week under the weather, forcing herself to rest, but was still communicative.

On Friday, January 5th, she collapsed in her home and was taken to the emergency room at a nearby hospital.  This occurrence was a blessing in disguise as without her trip to the ER, it would not have been discovered that she had multiple brain aneurysms.

Her sick feeling on January 1st was the first aneurysm rupturing, releasing blood into her brain, increasing cranial pressure and forcing her body into significant trauma.  Sometime during the week, a second aneurysm appeared, likely caused from the increased blood pressure of the bleed in her vessel, putting even more duress on her brain.

She has been in the hospital for 2 weeks and has shown gains.  She will be in need of in-patient rehabilitation as is recommended for her health and well-being.  Facilities that house patients for rehab are well-suited for increased physical therapy sessions as they contain machines and other equipment to better assist patients with their recovery.

It has been learned that these rehab centers are not covered by insurance as well as an acute care hospital (where she is now).  Though some of the cost will be covered, there will be quite a bit that will have to be paid out-of-pocket.  These expected out-of-pocket expenses are already daunting for my father, who, along with my mother, never planned for an emergency such as this.

This is where you come in.

The funds raised from this program will help pay for the incoming medical bills from the hospital, the ambulance service and the rehabilitation center.  This will help ease the strain of financial burden that they will soon find themselves under.

As of the creation of the campaign, my mother will be in her current hospital stay approximately one more week.  After that time, she will be moved to an in-patient rehabilitation center.  We do not have a figure in the costs as of yet, but we know they are coming and would like be prepared for what is to come.

We thank you for your generosity and willingness to help Marta and her family!
