<div>If you know Marcelo, you know he isn't someone who tries to command a room with loud voice or flashy clothes. He has always been defined by his quiet warmth, genuine personality, his optimism, and his ability to be truly present and happy in every moment.
</div>
<div>Since he was a young boy, he had a strong passion for playing soccer. When he moved to Australia, that passion stayed with him. He found his community of Brazilians in Sydney to play every weekend, and joined the East Gosford FC the Rams in 2021 after we moved to the Central Coast.
</div>
<div>For Marcelo, health and movement have always been two sides of the same coin. The gym is his sanctuary; he is deeply committed to his fitness, taking pride in maintaining his strength and physique. Besides going to the gym, he also enjoys playing all kinds of sports. If you invited him to play, you know he will be there. Staying fit and active isn’t just a hobby for him—it's how he shows up for himself and for those he loves.

<div>The Unexpected Challenge

<div>Our world was turned upside down when Marcelo was diagnosed with a slow-growing glioma in his left frontal lobe in October 2025. Being a healthy and fit man in his 30s’, it was devastated to believe that the brain tumour has been there for decades. Marcelo opened his heart like always to accept this reality and decided to fight for it in order to continue to live a long and happy life. While a major surgery successfully removed 50% of the tumour in December 2025, a secondary haemorrhage that led to a stroke changed everything a week later. It took away his ability to speak easily and his strength on his right side—the very tools he used to play the game he loves.

<div>Signs of a Fighter

<div>But Marcelo has never been one to stay on the sidelines. Even though this traumatic event has happened, he is brighter and more alert each day. He is deeply committed and motivated in his recovery. After three months of intensive, gruelling rehabilitation, we are seeing the spirit of the athlete return:

<div>•	Finding His Voice: He is now able to speak simple phrases in both English and Portuguese, regaining his ability to connect with us.
</div>
<div>•	Reclaiming Movement: He is now walking short distances independently (with supervision) and has regained some movement in his right arm.
</div>

<div>The "Second Half" of the Journey
</div>

</div>
<div>While we celebrate these wins, the match is far from over. Marcelo still has 50% of the tumour remaining that requires ongoing treatment. His path to full recovery requires long-term, specialised therapies to address:
</div>
<div>•	Aphasia and Apraxia: Intensive speech therapy to bridge the gap between his thoughts and his words.
</div>
<div>•	Cognitive Recovery: Helping his brain navigate the complexities of daily life after a stroke.
</div>
<div>•	Physical Mobility: Continued physiotherapy to get him back to the level of strength and health he has always valued and cherished.
