Supporting Malachi through his Leukaemia journey

Malachi Gray-Read

On the 5th of February 2022, my 10-year-old nephew woke up with pains in his legs and a long-lasting headache; during the afternoon, we went for a family walk altogether, and Malachi was unable to walk and make it up the road. After many hospital visits and the hospital stating it was just side effects of covid, Malachi was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on the 8th February 2022.

Overview: Acute lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) is cancer of the blood and bone marrow - the spongy tissue inside the bones where blood cells are made. The word 'Acute' in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia comes from the disease progressing rapidly and creating immature blood cells rather than mature ones.

Malachi has since undergone intense rounds of treatment that include steroids, chemotherapy, blood and platelets transfusions and lumbar punctures, which as you can imagine, have some unpleasant side effects.

Malachi has faced so much in only three months, and what a hero he has been throughout; it is a real testament to his incredible parents and their faith. We believe whole heartedly that God has his hands on his life and has given Malachi the strength to get this far.
We as a family would like to support them through this journey and ease the burden and help raise some funds to take away all unnecessary stress at an already challenging time.

Alicia (My sister, Malachi's mum) has not been able to return back to work yet, due to Malachi's health that changes constantly, and with many unscheduled hospital trips occurring with no idea when they will be able to return home.

This has been a heartbreaking and challenging time for all the family. Unfortunately, treatment will go on till he is 16 years old, meaning we felt that as a community and a family that loves the Gray-Reads very much, that help was needed to try and make this journey we find ourselves on as comfortable as we possibly can make it.

The funds would go towards the day to day living expenses, travel back and forth to Addenbrookes and/or anything that may be needed through this challenging time.

As a part of this Go Fund Me fundraiser, a skydive has been organised, for 6th August 2022 where Myself, my partner Zac and his work colleagues Jacob and Danny will take to the sky for Malachi and to make awareness of ALL Leukaemia.

We really do appreciate all that you can give and would love if you could share this for us.

Thank you,
Lots of love Daisie xxxxx
