As some of you may know, Jamie is having top surgery in Red Deer on Thursday, September 27th.
To say that he and his family have been through a lot over the past two years would be an understatement. They have gone through major career changes, financial struggles, mental health concerns, and major losses in their family.
A bright spot in the family's year has been Jamie coming out as trans. After much waiting, he has finally had his surgery confirmed in a nearby town, but the family's one car has broken down.
Some of you may know how difficult it is to live without a car in Edmonton, especially in the winter when far from major transit stations. With 2 kids, and while recovering from surgery, it's even harder. They have a vehicle they can borrow for the surgery, but it is not a longer term solution. The car is needed to get the youngest (not even 4!) to daycare on the other side of town. Closer daycares that are accepting of the family's queerness (including the kids' gender diversity) are not available. They also need a vehicle to get groceries, perform daily tasks and, basically, to live.
All funds raised here will go toward purchasing a vehicle and assisting in post-recocery costs, such as meals and daycare. Jamie will not be paid during the 2 week recovery period he has been allotted, and the family needs community support to make ends meet. They do not have access to credit. Please give if you can, and/or share. Let's show this QT fam some love.
