Hurricane Relief for My Family

My family has been in Puerto Rico for as far back as we can trace, and we want to be there for many more.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Maria, my strong, vibrant, resilient 100 year-old grandmother, who has made it through so many storms before, is at risk of overheating in the tropical temperatures. This is just one of the many challenges my family members are experiencing in Puerto Rico right now. As a trained city planner, I am working to find ways that I can leverage my training to help rebuild my community in the months and years to come. But my family needs help now, and I need your support to keep them healthy in the face of food and water shortages, lack of access to live-sustaining medicine, and a decimated power system. And this is all in the United States of America in 2017. I ask that you donate as much as you can to help cover the cost of purchasing and transporting to Puerto Rico non-perishable food, life-saving medicine, fans, water purification pills, mini solar panels and rechargeable batteries, solar-powered lamps, and batteries. It is expected to take four months to fully restore power and the recovery and rebuilding process is expected to take 10 to 15 years.
In the wake of this crisis, I want to help my family members back home by getting them the necessary resources to get through these tough times. We are hoping to send the items listed above on or before Wednesday, October 4th, once the postal service is up and running.

Mi familia ha vivido en Puerto Rico por generaciones, y queremos estar allí para muchas más.
Después de la devastación del huracán María, mi abuela de 100 años, quien ha vivido muchas tormentas en el pasado, corre el riesgo de sobrecalentarse en las temperaturas tropicales. Este es sólo uno de los muchos desafíos que mi familia está experimentando en Puerto Rico en este momento. Como planificadora urbana, estoy trabajando para encontrar maneras de usar mi entrenamiento para ayudar en la reconstrucción de mi comunidad en los meses y años venideros. Pero mi familia necesita ayuda ahora, y necesito su apoyo para mantenerlos saludables frente a la escasez de alimentos, agua y medicinas, y falta de electricidad. Les pido que done lo que puedan para ayudar a cubrir el costo de comprar y transportar alimentos no perecederos, medicamentos, ventiladores, pastillas de purificación de agua, paneles solares y baterías recargables, lámparas solares y baterías. La isla espera que tome cuatro meses restaurar completamente el sistema eléctrico y que el proceso de recuperación y reconstrucción se extienda 10 a 15 años. Nosotros los boricuas somos resilientes pero necesitamos de su apoyo.
Ante esta crisis, quiero ayudar a los miembros de mi familia en Puerto Rico y brindarles los recursos necesarios para que puedan superar estos tiempos difíciles. Planificamos enviar los articulos nombrados a mas tardar el próximo miercoles, 4 de octubre, si es posible antes.
Estamos profundamente agradecidos por cualquier contribución que puedan hacer a nuestra causa.
