Supporting Doña Elcira

Donation protected
Doña Elcira has been living with diabetes for the last 25 years but in recent years her situation has become more and more difficult. The government health care provides her with 2 insulin shots each month but these only last her for 15 days. Since she is not taking the necessary medicine she is having circulation issues which have caused her to suffer from peripheral neuropathy. Essentially, she is in a lot of constant pain and has numbness in her limbs. Her legs have become dark and discolored from her knees to her toes. The doctors are concerned that this can develop into blood clotting or a heart attack.

She has had the opportunity to see a specialist in a private practice, but for the average Nicaraguan this is very expensive (800 cordobas ($25 USD) for the consult and tests + 2000 cordobas ($65 USD) for the medicine she needs for one month) which included insulin, medicine for her blood pressure and circulation, as well as antibiotics from a renal infection she had. That month of medical care, and changes in her diet, saved her life and significantly altered her health. Unfortunately, since she cannot continue to see a specialist or purchase these medications her health is once again beginning to deteriorate.

We are hoping to create a fund that Doña Elicira can use for her on-going medical expenses to keep her in good health.
