Supporting Coastal Georgia Healthcare

Donation protected
Morale is incredibly low in our local hospitals. Physicians, nurses, techs, specialists, and staff of all kinds are working overtime in dangerous conditions with limited supplies while also attempting to control their own fears of bringing this home to their spouses, parents, and children.

From our classmates and colleagues, we have heard stories of complete selflessness coming from our frontline healthcare workers. We have also seen how one small gesture can mean so much.

A physician told one of the students that she had lunch with a pregnant nurse who was feeling extremely anxious about her health and the health of her unborn child. The physician offered her the cookie that was in her lunch, and the nurse burst into tears purely from this offer of kindness.

In the emergency department, an employee walked around offering everyone a piece of candy, which was reportedly the highlight of the week of an ED physician.

As an extension of an initiative that started at our main campus in Augusta, a group of medical students from the Medical College of Georgia Southeast Campus has come together to organize a morale-boosting drive to help coastal Georgia healthcare from Savannah to Brunswick and beyond. Our goal is to identify departments heavily impacted by COVID-19 at our local hospitals and provide them with "care packages." We will be creating individual bags full of candy, granola bars, mints, energy drinks, etc., and providing hand-written cards with messages thanking these healthcare providers for the strenuous work  they are doing.

This project is entirely donation based. Therefore, we are relying on the generosity of our communities to fund this initiative. We understand the hardships that families across the globe are facing in these uncertain days. ANY and ALL support is welcome and appreciated.

Please, help us with our goal of offering a small bit of hope in the lives of these healthcare workers who are giving up so much for all of us.

In addition to our efforts to boost healthcare worker morale, we are working in consultation with students from Mercer University School of Medicine. These students have begun fundraising to address the acute shortage of personal protective equipment (face shields, N95, etc.) to our frontline healthcare workers. --- Update ---

We as students of the Medical College of Georgia, SE campus would like to say thank you to all of our gracious donors. With the money raised via this GoFundMe and other initiatives so far, our group has been able to purchase the following:

 - 500+ care packages delivered to frontline healthcare workers
 - Six boxes of SaniCloth individual disinfectant wipes
 - One case of hospital grade disinfectant spray
 - 400 non-slip surgical shoe covers

These items were delivered to various hospitals and other healthcare facilities across SE Georgia, helping healthcare facilities keep their doors open to serve patients during these tumultuous times.

And a special shout-out to Tequila's Town for generously offering their moral and financial support to our cause. We are thankful for your help and urge the Savannah community to support Tequila's Town!
