<div>Hi! I'm Lauren Schwallier - the sister to Trevor Bastien, his wife Corissa and an Auntie to their sweet 9 month old boy, Nolan. When Nolan was born he was as happy and healthy as can be, thriving with each milestone as every baby does! When he was just 4 months old he contracted Rhinovirus that turned into mycoplasma, commonly known as walking pneumonia - a very rare and serious illness for a baby so young. As his breathing became more and more difficult and alongside his lack of nutrients, they were sent to the local Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. There, Nolan was on a CPAP machine and then had to transition to high-flow oxygen. After two long weeks there, they were discharged from PICU and able to go home! He was again, a normal sweet growing baby boy, exploring the whole world and continuing to make everyone around him smile and laugh. At just 9 months now, they noticed more of the same breathing struggles and decided to bring him in. Once again, Nolan contracted Rhinovirus - along with bronchitis. His breathing was so bad, they needed him on high-flow oxygen at the PICU. Trevor, Corissa and Nolan were at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for 5 days and nothing was getting better so the doctors decided to order a CAT scan which then, unfortunately showed that Nolan has a severe lung disease. They had to be transported that night to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in order to give Nolan the care that he needed. There, he had to undergo a bronchoscopy (a procedure where a tube with a camera is placed down his throat to collect samples), which then left him intubated on a ventilator and feeding tube for over 3 weeks. Through that testing, they found out that Nolan has PHP pneumonia and a rare gene mutation called X-linked hyper IgM - which means he cannot make his own antibodies to fight off infections. The only two treatment options for him are lifelong monthly antibody infusions or a bone marrow transplant after receiving a high-dose of chemotherapy to prepare his cells and immune system.

<div>Nolan still remains in the hospital with his Mom and Dad not leaving his side - currently battling withdrawals from being intubated and sedated for over 3 weeks. Praying they can all come home before Thanksgiving, happy and healthy as can be.
