Supporting Angie through Cancer

Donation protected
Hey everyone. As some of you may know, this past summer on July 5th our family found out that our mum has cancer. She had started coughing in late May, and we had all just assumed it was because of the smoke that Alberta gets almost every year in the summer time. She went to her doctor and he gave her an inhaler. When this didn't work he sent mum in for a CT scan.

July 5th was the day she received her CT results. She was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and it had spread to her liver, lungs, and lymph-nodes. We all cried, especially mum. I can't tell you how different life has been since then. It's so hard to watch her suffer. We all just love her so much. Obviously, it's completely devastating when anyone receives a cancer diagnosis. We all just couldn't stop thinking about how unfair this was. In our perspective, mum has spent most of her life being so kind and serving others, and it felt like she didn't deserve this. Her husband died of cancer around ten years ago, and we can all remember how much integrity she had when taking care of him in his last days. This just isn't how we pictured her life and our lives going. I guess no one really does. 57 is so young.

Since July, things have been difficult. Mum worked as a flight attendant for the last 20 years and loved the work she did. However, since this all started she has had to stop working and undergo chemotherapy treatment. She currently receives chemotherapy two weeks out of every month for the last six months. This includes intravenous and oral chemotherapy. Since she can't work, she now receives less than half of her previous wage. I live with her currently. I am finishing up my social work degree in June so I contribute what I can,  but honestly I don't have much to give monetarily from being in school full time. With everything that comes along with life, the mortgage, the car payments, the house and its needed repairs (ie- roof), medical expenses, and sadly eventually her Will and funeral arrangements, our family is asking for help.

These funds would not only help relieve some stress from our mum, but they would also enable her to have a more comfortable life in the interim.

If there are any left over funds, our dream is to take her to her favorite place, Maui. She loves to sit on the beach and listen to the ocean. We want to give that to her, to help her to live comfortably, and to pay off the things she needs to before her cancer worsens.

We appreciate anything anyone can give, and we understand if you can't give anything monetary. A share on Facebook, a prayer, or a loving thought are all welcomed. Every little bit helps.

We really don't know how much time we all have left together. The last CT scan was November 8th and it showed that although the tumors she has did not grow , they didn't shrink either. At this point, we are taking it day by day and doing everything we can to manage her pain. Simply put, we just want to do for her what she has always done for us and others her whole life- we want to take care of her.

Thank you for reading everyone. Much love to you all.
