Supporting and Skilling Women in Need

Imagine an ambitious hard-working person striving to achieve a better life trapped by debt and potential disgrace.  This person is a  human sex-trafficked victim.

Sex-trafficking is a major problem in Nigeria.  According to Trafficking in Persons Report (2010), Nigeria is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children subjected to trafficking in persons, specifically conditions of forced labor and prostitution. Children from West African nations like Benin, Togo, and Ghana – where Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) free movement rules allow for easy entry – are also forced to work in Nigeria.  Some children are subjected to hazardous jobs in Nigeria’s granite mines. Nigerian women and girls are taken to Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, for forced prostitution.

Victims of human trafficking need their dignity to be restored after being sexually abused and exploited by traffickers and their house masters/mistresses. They need protection from their captors who have financial and powerful connections to deal with their victims' identities are revealed. They need the rights to seek justice under the law without fear or favor dealing with their traffickers. They need to be empowered with skills and equipment necessary to make them useful to themselves and be re-integrated to society.

CAFSO WRAG  is a non-profit organization based in Nigeria that helps human trafficking victims develop skills to be prepared into the workforce.  The organization plans to utilize these donations through these projects:

a) Building a shelter for human trafficking returnee women in Ibadan, Nigeria
b) Capacity building of selected Civil Society Actors on Gender-Based Violence and harmful Traditional Practices
c) Fundraising training for Civil Society Organizations
d) Developing job skills for youth
