Filomena and Kara Need Your Help

Donation protected
When you think about the Sharples family the words faith, love, and kindness come to mind; each member of the family would give the shirt off their back to assist someone in need.  We are reaching out to our community because Filomena and Kara need your support.  Below is a small picture of their story; please take the time to read and support this amazing family!

In 2013, Filomena was diagnosed with breast cancer and she fought the battle without missing a beat; she continued to be committed to her family, work and her church community.  Through her first fight against breast cancer Filomena’ s only request was that we keep her in our thoughts and prayers.  Her connection with faith continued to motivate her and kept her focus on her recovery.  The battle was not easy but she knew that God was watching over her.

In April of 2017, Filomena met with her doctor to be told that she was going to face another battle with breast cancer, however on the opposite side; remembering the day that she indicated she needed to get results of a biopsy she indicated do not worry I will back and everything will be ok.  Filomena always with a smile on her face reminded everyone that she was a fighter; after a second opinion Filomena made the decision that she would work with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute an out of network provider.  Filomena took a leave of absence from work and had surgery, went through rounds of chemotherapy and through it all she continued to keep her faith in God and once again only asked for prayers.

In June 2017, as Filomena continued her treatments; her 26-year-old daughter Kara had an appointment with her doctor due to some pain she was experiencing in her hip.  The doctor completed tests and MRIs which lead to biopsies. Waiting for the results was painful and results were delayed for a second specialist's review and then on August 31 the Sharples family received confirmation that Kara has cancer in her hip.

As an outsider looking in at the Sharples family one would wonder what more can one family experience in a short time period.  Kara is one of the most caring individuals; completing nursing school and starting her career working for a hospital in Boston.  Just like her mother Kara is a fighter not willing to give up.  Everyone continues to ask why Filomena and her daughter Kara who is only 26-years-old; who has hopes and dreams of getting married, becoming a mom and using her nursing degree to do good in the world.

On Wednesday, September 6th Kara went through surgery to replace most of her hip and she will undergo chemotherapy.  We are asking you to help support Filomena and Kara to assist with some additional unexpected expenses that they are experiencing over the last few weeks:

·  Cobra medical coverage; that will be need for Filomena due to increased leave time to complete her treatment and to support Kara through her course of treatment.

·  Copayments for Dana Farber for surgery and treatment

·  Household expenses that continue to add up; Filomena has been out of work since April 2017

Any donation that you can provide is never too big or too small; if you are unable to donate we thank you for reading Filomena and Kara’s story and continue to ask that you keep the Sharples family in your daily prayers.
