Greetings,
Many people saw the FOX Chicago news story about IMPACT Family Center needing funding in December 2016. Sylvia Perez really came to do a story on the IMPACT #BlackboardProject and giving youth a voice to advocate about the violence in their Chicago neighborhoods. But, she was so moved by all that we do with a budget of just over $200,000, she decided to change the focus to a pleas for financial support. As we end to the first quarter of 2017, we are happy to report that WE ARE STILL HERE!
Yes, there is still a great financial need, but the youth and families on the far Southside NEED our programs and services, so we will persevere. The fact is that many complain about the violence, our youth, and the state of our communities, but few roll up their sleeves to join us in the trenches as volunteers or donate to keep organizations like ours open to do the work. It's easier to talk about it than to DO something about it. Our students and parents are asking YOU to DO something, today.
IMPACT is one of few organizations that has had a consistent presence in the community for nearly 12 years offering a safe out of school center teaching and training students picking up where schools left off. Our goal is to service families holistically. For example, the staff has recently been providing GED prep to a single mother, music therapy/homework help to her two children, and digital media to her two teens. Multiple CHA teen residents are learning skills and developing a mindset to strive for more in their future. IMPACT programming effect is like none other. Combining journalism, digital media, mentoring/counseling, employment training, and wellness is creating well-rounded youth and helps adults to improve, as well. The IMPACT Effect ® gets real results.
Students count on the safe space, snacks/dinner, computers, and a listening ear or hug every day after school, but we have gone from being open with full programming 5-6 days to 3-4 days. We are looking for individuals and philanthropic entities to view what we do as a vital part of the framework of stabilizing our communities and city by supporting IMPACT.
So, let's ALL be a part of the solution; invest in IMPACT. The return on your investment is socially/emotionally well-balanced youth who grow up to become productive citizens.
