Dear Friends and Family,
On Friday June 2, 2017 I was injured in a hit and run. I was visiting my grandson that afternoon, and was parked in the alley of the apartment complex. When I returned to my car, a truck sped through the alley and knocked me to the ground. It came out of nowhere, and the driver didn’t stop to make sure I was okay. I lost sight of the truck, and I was not able to identify the driver or the license plate. I felt extreme pain in my right shoulder when I got myself up off the ground, and called for help. I was treated at the UCI Emergency room and had a series of tests done, including a CT scan, to make sure there was no internal damage. When the results of my CT scan came back, I was told I suffered from an Acromioclavicular Joint Separation, and they also made me aware they had other concerns about my health. I learned that I had been born with a Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). I didn’t know how serious the AVM in my artery was at first, but I was most concerned with relieving the pain and gaining mobility in my dominant arm. As I was lying in the hospital bed in excruciating pain and without being able to move, all I could think about was my family and how I would provide for my four children. My family and I have been through a lot of difficult situations in the past, but with God’s help and my health, we have been able to get through. This time it is different; I am unable to work or complete any of the daily tasks I once took for granted. At first, the doctor believed my joint would heal on its own, but after seeing a specialist, he confirmed that surgery would be most effective. My surgery was scheduled for July 6, 2017, unfortunately they could not follow through with the surgery because of my condition. The procedure was much too risky because due to the malformation, my blood could clot at anytime and cause a stroke. After weeks of pain and doctor’s appointments, I have finally been approved to have surgery to treat my artery malformation. This will not only reassure my longevity, but it is also the first step to regaining mobility in my arm.
I have been out of work for two months, and I will have a lengthy recovery after both of my surgeries. I have struggled to find the means to pay for my rent, bills and medical expenses. I am so grateful for the emotional support I have received from my family, friends and medical professionals. They have motivated me to start this GoFundMe page, in order to alleviate some of the financial hardship. Although this was not an ideal situation, I now understand the purpose behind this accident; I now have the opportunity to improve my quantity and quality of life. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this, and for supporting me as I get through this obstacle in my path. Please help me share this so I can reach my goal.
